Top 10 National Electrical Code Revisions Impacting Electrical Safety
NFPA 70: National Electrical Code is undergoing a major revision that’s being spread out over several revision cycles. With an overload of changes occurring every time a new edition of the code comes out, it can be difficult to stay in tune with everything that’s shifting in it. However, the impact of proper installation on the safety of employees in the workplace means that important changes involving safety of personnel must not get lost in the fog. This webinar will examine some of the major revisions taking place in the code for the 2026 edition that are aimed at safeguarding people and property from the hazards that arise from the use of electricity.

Electrical Shock and Arc Flash Mitigation and Limitations
Understanding of the electrical arc flash and electrical shock hazards has vastly improved over the past few years. Employers undertook a concerted effort to issue personal protective equipment (PPE). As electrical safety evolved, industry is focusing on design enhancements that go beyond the provision of PPE.
This webinar explores various mitigation techniques aimed at preventing injuries, drawing upon standards such as OSHA, NEC, and NFPA 70E. It poses the critical question of whether design changes can negate the necessity for PPE, examining if a company can maintain safety standards without relying on PPE. Additionally, the webinar will address relevant maintenance requirements outlined in NFPA 70B and will introduce pertinent OSHA regulations.

Electrical and Multi-Hazard Hand Protection: Beyond Electrical Shock and Arc Flash
Hand protection has evolved significantly since metal and rail workers first used gloves stitched from animal hide to guard against cuts and burns. Today, gloves are designed to protect against extreme temperatures, vibration, cuts, conductivity, and electrical hazards (dielectric or voltage-rated), as well as to serve as protective layers for other gloves. These various forms of protection fall under the umbrella of multi-hazard hand protection—an essential element of workplace safety that has led to mandated regulations in the U.S. and other countries.

Advancing Electrical Safety – Principles and Practices
Electrical safety is difficult to establish and even more difficult to sustain. These challenges are driven by an evolving workforce and ever-changing technology. OSHA has electrical safety requirements for commercial industry users, utilities (power generation, transmission and distribution) and construction. These requirements govern both technology and work practices. We start by creating specific rules applicable to our work – remove the generic language of OSHA and replace it with the specifics of our workplace. This webinar uses the principles from a consensus standard – NFPA 70E-2024 – to establish these specific (and customized) electrical safety work practices.

Critical Changes in NFPA 70E Affecting Industry
The 2015 edition of the NFPA 70E standard includes a major change in how stakeholders evaluate electrical risk – so that owners, managers, and employees can work together to ensure an electrically safe working area and comply with OSHA 1910 Subpart S and OSHA 1926 Subpart K. There are updated tables, a new subsection in 130.2 (A)(4) that provides requirements where normal operation of electric equipment is permitted, and Annex E has been updated to correlate with the redefined terminology associated with hazard and risk.
