A List of e-Hazard Instructors Speaking at ESW 2016

Several members of the e-Hazard team will be speaking at the 2016 Electrical Safety Workshop in March.

Hugh Hoagland will be part of a panel who will speak on Wednesday on “Measuring Arc Blast: Effects of Electrode Type, Current Level, Enclosure Sizes, and Enclosure Cover on Arc Blast in a LV System toward Calculations.”   (Wednesday, March 9, 11:00 am – 12:00 pm). Hugh has helped develop arc-rated rainwear and face shields and has numerous patents related to arc flash protection. Hugh has aided in the development of legislation and standards in the U.S. and globally. He serves on ASTM F18, IEC TC78 and the IEEE Electrical Safety Committee as a U.S. based expert on arc flash and electrical safety.

Marcia Eblen has over thirty years electrical engineering experience. She serves on the NFPA 70E technical committee, several ASTM and IEEE committees and has written publications on arc flash testing. She will be co-presenting a paper with EPRI on “Medium-Voltage Arc Flash Testing of Switchgear and Live-Front Transformers.” (Thursday, March 10, 10:30am – 11:15 am)

On Friday, Hugh will be speaking again along with another e-Hazard team member, Zarheer Jooma, on “A Study on the Effectiveness of the Electrical Incident Investigation Process.” Zarheer is a professional electrical engineer who helped develop SANS 724, the South African National Standard for Protective Equipment against the Thermal Hazards of an Electric Arc. Their technical class will be on Friday, March 11, 9:00 – 9:45 am.

Zarheer will also do a 15-minute presentation on Friday, March 11 from 11:45 – 12:00 pm on “Case History: Arc-Flash Incident on a Locked Out 3.3kV Breaker.”

Al Havens, Lee Hale, and Marcia Eblen bring their NFPA expertise to Friday’s “Tutorial 6: NFPA 70E Q&A or FAQ.”  (Friday, March 11 at 1:00pm – 5:00pm). Al was Senior Electrical Engineer 26 years at U.S. Gypsum, where he established their NFPA 70E compliance and training programs. Lee is a principle member of the NFPA 70E committee with more than thirty years experience in electrical safety, engineering, and construction. He is also a member of two UL standard technical panels. This tutorial will allow attendees to submit questions about NFPA 70E. All the NFPA members on the panel will be giving their professional opinions only; their answers will not be considered official interpretations.
